Abstract: C-reactive protein(CRP) is a nonspecific but sensitive marker suggesting inflammation. It has been most widely used for clinical diagnosis and prognosis of cardiovascular diseases. In the last decade, the prediction of CRP in cancer has caused more and more attention from many scholars. A lot of research have demonstrated that elevated CRP level is a determinant predictor of lower survival rates in patients with several cancers such as gastrointestinal cancer and gynecologic tumor. In this review, we briefly summarize the prognostic values of preoperative and postoperative serum CRP levels in resectable pancreatic cancer, and of the pretherapeutic CRP levels in advanced pancreatic carcinoma, respectively. Although the results are still controversial, an elevated CRP, measured either postoperative or pretherapeutic, has been shown to predict poor survival in some clinical researches.
