Research progress on anti-hepatoma mechanisms and clinical application of β-elemene

Abstract: The β-elemene is an effective component of the traditional Chinese herbal medicine Wenyujin(Curcuma), which has significant anti-hepatoma effect. It can induce the apoptosis of hepatoma cells, inhibit the proliferation of hepatoma cells, interrupt the cell cycle of hepatoma cells, inhibit the invasion and metastasis of hepatoma cells, inhibit the angiogenesis and regulate immune function in hepatoma cells. β-Elemene Injection is approved by the state for two-category of anti-tumor drugs and the clinical treatments have been widely applied in hepatoma. This article reviews the mechanism and clinical progress of β-Elemene Injection in the treatment of primary liver cancer.
