Abstract: Integrin is one of the most important adhesion molecules in cell surface and it plays an essential role in adhesion, proliferation, differentiation, metastasis and apoptosis in different tumors. Integrin α5β1 is one of the key members in integrin family, which acts as a major receptor of fibronectin in extracellular matrix. Integrin α5β1 may serve as a new index for diagnosis and prognosis of several tumors and it may be a future target for cancer therapy. This review is aimed to explore the role of integrin α5β1 in carcinogenesis and progression of different tumors and the possible involved mechanisms.
