Abstract: Objective To investigate the expression of Vav3 and MMP-2 and its association with clinicopathological features in human gastric cancer. Methods The expression of Vav3 and MMP-2 in gastric cancer was detected by immunohistochemistry, and the relationship with clinicopathological features was analyzed. Results The positive expression rate of Vav3 and MMP-2 in gastric cancer were 57.1%(52/91) and 68.1%(62/91), which were significantly higher than those in pericarcinoma tissues(30.5%,25/82; 25.6%,21/82). Expression of Vav3 was closely correlated with TNM stage, lymphatic metastasis and vascular infiltration(P<0.05); Expression of MMP-2 was closely correlated with TNM stage and lymph node metastasis(P<0.05). The positive correlation was found between Vav3 and MMP-2 in gastric cancer(r=0.313, P=0.003). Conclusion Vav3 and MMP-2 were high expressed in gastric cancer and the correlation between them was positive correlation. The expression of Vav3 protein may be involved in tumor invasion and metastasis event.
